A Travel Guide to Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport is also referred to as the Tullamarine Airport. It is actually the second busiest airport in all of Australia and it serves the city of Melbourne and the nearby districts. There are four airports in Melbourne but only Tullamarine Airport handles international flights.

From the city center, Melbourne Airport is roughly 14 miles away. This airport is oftentimes referred to as the Melbourne and Tullamarine Airport simply because it lies right at the boundaries of these two suburbs. From the airport to the city center, you would have to take the Tullamarine Freeway and then onto the CityLink.

Being a very busy airport, there are five car park areas all around. If you choose to use the shuttle to take you to town, you can ride the Skybus Super Shuttle. It would take you to the central business district in Melbourne, more particularly to the Southern Cross Station. It is a 20-minute ride from the airport to there.

There are buses at the airport too. If you would like to save more and use the public transport, three bus routes are available to you. Route 478 will take you to the Moonee Ponds Junction. Route 500′s stop is between Victoria University and the Broadmeadows Railway Station. Route 479 will take you to Sunbury. There are other buses serving longer routes available as well. If you’re traveling as far as Ballart, Frankston, Bendigo, Dandenong, Mornington Peninsula, Geelong, Riverina, and Shepparton, you have to take specific buses to get you there.

However, there’s no better way to travel around Melbourne than with your own set of wheels. Hire a car prior to your arrival so you don’t have to worry things like when the next shuttle will leave for town or where exactly the bus will drop you off. With a hired car, you can immediately get to your hotel and enjoy a good rest after a long flight.

There are many car hire portals available online these days and you are encouraged to use them. By doing so, you simply collect your car from the car hire company right after your plane has landed. A few hours before your estimated time of arrival, the car you hired will be prepared for you so you can use it immediately.
